Participants
In this initial study, we interviewed participants in our own network, which skews towards professionals working in tech. In a subsequent study, we plan to interview a broader population.
- Software engineer & business owner who uses AI tools daily at work for coding, generating images for e-commerce, and occasionally in their personal life for tasks like email responses and note-taking.
- Product designer who uses AI tools weekly, both personally for generic questions and idea generation, and at work for assisting in idea generation despite not being officially allowed.
- Startup founder who utilizes AI tools daily at work to assist with coding, marketing, and summarizing content, and weekly in their personal life for advice on general questions and text editing.
- UX designer who uses AI tools monthly in their personal life for advice on fitness routines and game strategies, and less than monthly at work to help brainstorm and write emails.
- Software engineer who utilizes AI tools monthly both at work for internal technology guides and personal research, noting the ease of use for unfamiliar topics but also encountering issues with incorrect answers.
- Engineer involved in a nursing home business who uses AI tools weekly for document generation, response to government letters, and programming, appreciating the time savings but noting the need for frequent prompting.
- Public health professional who utilizes AI tools monthly for work activities like email drafting, survey question creation, and transcribing, valuing the idea generation and efficiency improvement despite concerns about data security.
